About the Plant
The Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA facility is one of the world’s newest TiO2 manufacturing plants. The plant was built by KRONOS and began operating in 1992. The facility utilizes the chloride process and has an estimated capacity of 156,000 metric tons per year TiO2 pigment. Lake Charles is a beneficial location for a variety of reasons, including the local deep-water port for transportation of ore and products, the availability of other raw materials such as chlorine, coke, and oxygen, and easy access to a nearby interstate highway. The plant employs >300 employees and has earned the coveted OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) recognition for superior safety programs and injury rates.
